Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers!)

What can I expect when I attend your church on a Sunday morning?

Our Sunday morning worship begins at 10:00 am. You may park in the parking lot behind the church building or along the streets around the church and you may enter the church in front or from either side at the rear of the church. People usually come in and sit and pray, greet those in church and read through the bulletin a few minutes before 10:00. We are welcomed, brief announcements are shared and then the service begins. The service usually lasts about an hour. Coffee and cookies are served following worship downstairs in fellowship hall.

How many people attend church on Sundays?

There are around 200 people who attend service on Sundays.

  • Childcare for our youngest, ages 4 and under.

How should I dress?

There is a wide range of dress, from suit to khakis and nice shirt for men and from skirt/pants and blouse to dresses. There is really no specific dress code. Members and visitors are encouraged to dress as they are comfortable. Most church functions find people of different generations dressing in the way they feel most comfortable.

What type of music do you sing?

Most hymns are from the traditional hymn book. The choir sings contemporary and classical choral music. We encourage active participation in the music.

Is First Presbyterian Church a mission- minded church?

Yes, definitely! We are active within the church community and within the community of Glens Falls. We have many church sponsored mission projects ongoing throughout the year. Please see our Mission page on the web site.

I want to help. How do I get on a committee?

Call the church office, speak to one of the Pastors or an Elder to convey your interest. Committee’s are always looking for caring volunteers. When attending worship, the Ushers can assist you in locating the people to whom you wish to speak.

Is the church handicapped accessible?

Yes. There is an entrance with a ramp at the rear side entrance near Notre Dame Street, as well as handicapped parking in the lot near there. Once you enter the building through those double doors, go left to the elevator before the stairwell. Take the elevator to the Sanctuary level.

Does the church provide worship aids for those who are hard-of–hearing?

Wireless personal amplification devices are available for the hard-of-hearing. Please see an usher for assistance and remember to leave it on the pew or return it to an usher when you leave.
